At its core, a free Zi Wei Dou Shu chart tool automatically calculates based on the user’s input of birth year, month, day, and hour (either solar or lunar calendar), along with gender. It uses a built-in perpetual calendar and the formulas of Zi Wei Dou Shu to first convert the solar date to the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches of the lunar calendar, then determine the position of the Ming Palace (Life Palace), and finally place the Zi Wei star along with other Major Stars, minor stars, and inauspicious stars into the 12 palaces. Because Zi Wei Dou Shu places great importance on the 'hour of birth,' it’s essential to verify the accuracy of your birth time—if the hour is wrong, the palace positions and star placements will shift. The advantage of free chart tools is that they eliminate the tedious manual calculations, allowing beginners to quickly obtain a structurally complete natal chart as a foundation for further learning and understanding. Please note: the chart results are for cultural reference only and should not be taken as absolute life predictions.

After generating the chart, you'll see a diagram divided into 12 palaces, each representing a different life area: Ming Palace (self), Siblings Palace, Marriage Palace, Children Palace, Wealth Palace, Health Palace, Travel Palace, Friends Palace (also called Social Palace), Career Palace, Property Palace, Fortune Palace, and Parents Palace. For example, the Marriage Palace is often used to explore tendencies in love and relationships, while the Career Palace corresponds to work and career traits. The chart also contains 14 Major Stars, such as Zi Wei, Tian Ji, Tai Yang, Wu Qu, Tian Tong, Lian Zhen, etc., along with various auxiliary and inauspicious stars, forming unique star combinations. By using the free chart, you can observe which palaces these Major Stars fall into and understand from a cultural perspective how traditional metaphysics describes a person's character outline and life patterns.

Once you have your free Zi Wei Dou Shu natal chart, start by looking at your Ming Palace—observe the Major Star stationed there and its symbolic meaning—then move on to the palaces you're most curious about, such as love, career, or wealth. Many free platforms also include brief explanations of the stars and palaces, making it easy for beginners to learn by comparison. If you want to go deeper, you can read related books or consult a professional teacher, using the chart as a starting point for discussion and exploration. Keep in mind that Zi Wei Dou Shu is part of traditional culture and folk customs; its content is suitable as material for self-reflection and entertainment, not as a basis for medical, investment, or major life decisions. Maintain a rational and open mindset—treat the chart as a window to understand yourself and traditional culture—so this ancient art can bring positive value.
